SCEA is delaying release of The Last Guardian until sometime in 2012. The title’s Director/Game Designer, Fumito Ueda, released the following statement in explanation.

I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011. However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing. All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality. I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for The Last Guardian for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.”

In addition, they revealed two of their competitive modes. One is Three Team Deathmatch, which is a small 3-team 2 vs. 2 vs. 2 variation on Team Deathmatch. The other is Free For All, with every player out for themselves. Sony is making it easier to get into multiplayer matches. Sony Computer Entertainment America and George Hotz have settled the lawsuit filed by SCEA against Hotz in federal court. As part of this settlement, Hotz has consented to a permanent injunction that requires him to take down his postings. In the action, SCEA accused Hotz of violating federal law by posting online information about the PlayStation 3 that SCEA claimed could be used to circumvent the security system in the console and allow the playing of pirated games.

Sony is glad to put this litigation behind us,” said Riley Russell, General Counsel for SCEA. “Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal.”

“It was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier,” said Hotz, “I’m happy to have the litigation behind me.”

Hotz was NOT involved in the recent attacks on Sony’s internet services and websites.

Picture from Full version of Minecraft to release in NovemberMarkus Persson, developer of the popular indie title Minecraft, has revealed that the full version of the game is scheduled to release in November.

According to Persson’s blog, “It’s a bit tricky to really do a release for Minecraft as we keep updating it all the time. For one, the version we deem as the full version won’t be very different at all from what the game was like a week ago, and we’ll keep adding features after the release as well, so it’s really more of a milestone when we finally get rid of the Beta label, and some kind of goal for us to work towards. And if you were wondering if they picked the date by mistake given that Veterans’ Day is shaping up to be a big gaming day this year, he had this to say: “It’s the same date as a few other games and movies, and the one I’m the most excited about is Skyrim, so that will be a nice reward for me if we actually manage to hit that date!

PSX4Droid, the PSOne emulator for Android that was recently pulled by Google, has gone free and open source. Joystiq reports that the latest version of the software puts both the app and the source code online for anyone to download and check out.

Developer ZodTTD claims that the original Sony complaint only had to do with a trademarked logo in the app’s icon, but Google has closed both his Android Market and CheckOut accounts, leaving him unable to publish any apps. As a result, he’s self-publishing PSX4Droid, and will be exploring other third-party markets to sell the app in.
