We’ve received an urgent message via the PlayStation Blog!
Calling all PlayStation Home residents! Reports of an impending attack on Central Plaza have come through the PlayStation Home Community Management office. Our friends over at Hellfire Games are asking you, the resistance, to report to the new Novus Prime space station. From there you will board a state-of-the-art fighter ship and engage the enemy in a free-to-play action multiplayer space combat game.
Form teams of up to four players and embark on a score of dangerous missions where you will employ cutting-edge weaponry in intense battles against massive fleets of foes. Purchase new ships, weapons, and upgrades from the workshop, customizing your fighters’ styling and gear. Take your avatars out into zero-G, floating freely while shooting the parasitic crawlers that drill into the station’s hull. The best pilots can even earn an exclusive animated officer’s jacket! Do you have what it takes to fight back the invaders?

Sony has announced that they are assembling an arsenal of over fifty (20 being developed in house) 3D games in their renewed assault on the home console market.
In and interview with Develop, SCEE studio director Mick Hocking said, “it’s a very positive thing to see the great level of interest in 3D from our development studios. Some of [the 3D games] are massive names. That’s a really, really good sign that the industry is behind our unique message that 3D is a key element in the future of home consoles. We’re actively talking to developers and publishers, and we’re also offering training to them to help them get up to speed with 3D. 3D isn’t just about adding depth to a picture – developers need to know how to get the very best out of the technology on PS3 and we’ll ensure that they do.”

Mass Effect 3 outed by tweet? |

A tweet from Sony’s Russian team that appears to confirm the existence of Mass Effect 3 for the PS3 has been pulled, but not quickly enough. Games Radar was nice enough to screen cap and translate it for the rest of the world.
The tweet (left) translates as, “Company #BioWare Award for #VideoGameAwards showed a teaser, in which we can see the first footage #MassEffect 3.” The Twitter account, PlayStationRU, appears to be an official Sony-sanctioned account, and despite the poor translation (waiting for Alaric to chime in to be certain), the tweet clearly suggests that Mass Effect 3 will be officially announced and debuted at the VGAs on December 11.

Halo Wars players were greeted with some unwelcome news this past weekend. Joystiq reports that the game’s stat tracking home, as well as its official forums, will be shut down on December 15. The community is being persuaded to move its conversation over to the Halo Waypoint forums, and on the same day as the closure, an update will launch for Halo Wars, forever severing it from the soon-to-be-discontinued website.

Blizzard Entertainment may soon renew its relationship with gaming consoles. The company has posted a job opening on its official site seeking a “Lead Designer, Console” to work on Diablo III.
The rumors began to fly as soon as word of the listing was picked up across the Web, so Blizzard felt it necessary to issue the following statement. “We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project. If you’re passionate about all things Diablo and have the requisite skill and experience, then head over to our jobs site to check out the positions and apply. Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.”

While a majority of US states don’t, yet, legally recognize same-sex marriage, Zynga’s Frontierville has spawned over 650,000 boy-boy and girl-girl unions. According to Kotaku, Zynga CEO Mark Pincus delivered this news yesterday at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco while rattling off other interesting statistics about the company’s game portfolio. While these pairings don’t necessarily mean that there are 650,000 gay and lesbian couples playing the game, the statistic itself makes you wonder if gamers are perhaps more “open” than your average human.

If the Twitter trends are to be believed, Activision is planning to shut down Liverpool-based studio Bizarre Creations.
Travelers’ Tales boss Jon Burton started the ball rolling. “Sad Day for games developers. Really glad I didn’t sell my company to Activision.” This was followed by numerous tweets from other members of the UK development scene, indicating that approximately 200 people could lose their jobs when Activision shuts the doors.
Eurogamer requested more information from Activision directly, and received the following clarification. “Bizarre is a very talented team of developers, however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business.”
