A little over two years ago I graduated from college and moved out of the house into a “cozy and vintage” apartment downtown. I wanted to be closer to work and I needed my independence. As a result of my career in journalism and my generally frugal nature, I decided to be stingy when it came to expenditures while living on my own.

This meant I lived without Internet for the past two years. I figured since my job is online-based, and I’m on the Internet eight hours every day, I don’t need to be bothered with it at home. And looking back, it was actually a very liberating experience. It was nice not having the option of wasting hours in front of a computer screen accomplishing nothing. Watching useless (but hilarious) videos and making sure I’ve seen the latest Red Faction quibble. But of course, that lack of connectivity also had its fair share of drawbacks. I was literally in the dark on all the downloadable content and online gaming for the past couple of years. If I wanted to game online, say for a review I was working on, I needed to throw the title in my car and drive back into the suburbs to steal the family’s connection.

Well, things have changed. I’ve moved into a new place, and after much prodding from the family, I’ve made efforts to transform my Luddite lifestyle. They wanted me to finally spring for cable and Internet, and while I didn’t budge on cable (antenna on my HDTV yay), I finally got hooked up. I’ve been so for a couple months now, and life has calmed down enough for me that I can game online and own some noobs.

The only problem is that my new PSN ID is barren. I have no friends, so I’m relegated to playing with a bunch of randoms. I feel like a loner, so I’m hoping there are some fellow Avaulters out there who want do some gaming, and perhaps own some noobs together. Perhaps form some sort of alliance of owning.

I’m also sort of in the dark on what the quality online experiences are. I’ve been playing some Modern Warfare 2 and SOCOM: Confrontation lately, but only because that’s what I have. If there’s other stuff out there, the chances are I probably haven’t given it a shot. I’ve basically been living in a furnished rock the past couple of years. And I’m not just lost when it comes to the good multiplayer experiences out there, but the quality PSN titles as well. Sure, I can go on to the other gaming sites and read their reviews, but I’d rather grab some recommendations from the folks here. You all seem like a group of fine gentleman and ladies with distinguished taste.

So please, let me have it. Tell me what I’ve missed. Tell me what I need to see, do, play, and most importantly, feel free to add me and tell me what games you’re on. My ID is: Arrrrresh. That’s Arrrrresh with five “r”s. You have to roll them. It’s like a war cry. If you hear it, you’re already dead (because I probably accidentally tk’d you).

Do not listen to Billy. 360 is for drunken frat boys. Get a good gaming PC instead.

If you need a reason (other than the quality of games you play) to follow my advice instead of his, please keep the following in mind. Billy is god knows where. I am right here in Chicago and I can find you and beat you up if you don’t do as I say.

(Being a bully is awesome, in case some of you didn’t know.)

borderlands… definitely worthwhile online with a mate as the split screen is just so badly desinged!!!

Wow, sounds like Borderlands is the consensus. I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks guys!

As for getting a 360 … well, after my 360 died for the third time, and Microsoft wouldn’t fix it, I vowed never to buy a 360-related product. I can’t justify sinking more money into that thing. However, my brother has a 360, and I visit him every other weekend or so. We do love to hop on Left 4 Dead 2, so if any of you have that, feel free to add us. I think our name is Soxfan 2. (Or Soxfan2. I can never remember.)

Alaric, as much as I’d love to experience some of the great PC games I’ve missed out on over the years, I just don’t like PC gaming. Console gaming is attractive because I can just plop my butt on the couch, wrap myself in a blanket and play with a controller. When I gamed on PC, I was always hunched at a desk, looking at a tiny monitor. Not cool. Besides, I can’t afford a good PC anyways. I have a mortgage payment now!

And I don’t know if you want to throw down with me. I’m from the streets of Aurora. It doesn’t really get any tougher. ;)

Ryan, I don’t know if you’ve played it yet but you gotta check out Uncharted 2. The single player and multiplayer are great! It really doesn’t matter either if you missed the first one. It is a must have for any PS3 owner.

I actually just finished the original Uncharted, and loved it. Uncharted 2 is definitely on my radar, I’ll probably go nab it soon. Thanks Turks :)
