I too enjoyed the read! I truly hope to recapture some of the early Ultima feel with my new RPG line we are developing at Portalarium. Specifically the exploration feel, the meaningful quests, the high value of maps and manuals (without becoming tedious). I would appreciate any supportive ideas any of you have.

Brilliant review - to say I have found memories of that era would be a huge understatement (it was that "just starting high school" period). Home computers were new and exciting and I believe Ultima III was the first RPG I ever owned - I think it motivated my pal to get an Atari computer like mine. Astonishing how such a relatively primitive game could suck you in..that was the power of Garriot's narrative and design in those days. I still have the handmade maps of every dungeon on graph paper. My hack-happy friend had fun hex editing the game so we could make our characters uber and go on a killing spree, heh heh.
