PS: yes, I know the article doesn't mention the Vita but rather older portables, but the implication is pretty clear the writer expects phones and tablets to remain the better overall gaming platform. This piece was clearly written by someone whose only gaming exposure is stuff like Angry Birds - if even that.

Society isn't obsessed with "social interaction", its obsessed with personality worship and narcissism. Facebook lets everyone pretend their a celebrity with zillions of followers just waiting to hear about what they ate for brunch. You could make all Zynga games single player and people would still play them just as much. Its the addictive nature and play-anywhere convenience of the things that gets people, not some ridiculous social aspect that's barely a sidenote. This article celebrates everything that's wrong with game design these days. Everything is being dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. Innovation takes a back seat to creating a new type of gaming addict who will happily feed half his paycheck into a cash store. At least a compulsive gambler has a small chance of winning some of his cash back - casual online money sinks like Farmville are more akin to a drug habit. And the iPhone, a better gaming platform than something like the Vita, let alone a true home console..? I admit that phones have really closed the gap with portables over the last couple years, but come on.
