Gamers of a certain age will have fond memories of their Commodore 64 and Amiga PCs. Soon a new generation of PC gamers will have a chance to share the nostalgia. Commodore USA has announced a new line of their iconic home computers, to be released later this year. And these are definitely not your father’s C-64 PCs. The new models will boast some very impressive components, including Intel 3.5 GHz i7 2700 CPUs, 16 GB of RAM, 1 GB GeForce 430 graphics cards and 1 TB hard drives. “This is an historic day,” says Commodore CEO Barry Altman. “The team here has been working around the clock to fulfill the vision of a reunited Commodore and AMIGA branded computer.” Check out the Commodore website for more info.

They must really be banking on the nostalgia market because for same price you could get a Mac.
New Prices!!! COMMODORE USA MAKES IT RIGHT; LOWERS PRICES IMMEDIATELY AFTER MASSIVE CONSUMER OUTCRY.
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL. March 22, 2012 – Commodore USA, LLC announced today the revision of the introductory price of it’s latest offering, the AMIGA mini, as well as the addition of configuration options, allowing for the selection of both CPU and memory.
Due to an overwhelming outpouring of customer comments, along with those posted on the major tech blogs, the company has listened to the thousands of requests for both lower prices and more choices, and responded today with prices and options that most respondents indicated was in line with other current offerings.
CEO Barry Altman states “Although we were ecstatic over the enormous traffic and positive interest generated by our recent product launch, we were equally dismayed and disheartened by the negativity regarding our initial pricing. In retrospect, we agree, and sincerely acknowledge our mistake, and hope you will take a second look at our new options and pricing. For all those customers who purchased the new AMIGA mini since yesterday’s launch, we have already reimbursed their credit card account reflecting the price difference. We would also like to thank all our supporters for their patience, as we attempt to revive the legendary Commodore and AMIGA brands”.
Yeah, and Macs are actually unique, not just some aftermarket box with stock hardware and an Amiga logo slapped on it…Commodore USA must think their potential customers are really stupid.
I have to admit, the one built into the large, clacky keyboard is pretty sexy. If only it had a small, embedded emulator built in, then it would be an instant-buy.
Wow, that’s what I get for not looking. It does.
call it what they want. it’s really sad to see the amiga and commodore brand names being trampled as such. they have no connection whatsoever with what the brand names used to represent.
@Fat Man
And how are Macs “actually unique” compared to the new Commodore offerings? In the olden days of yore both Mac and Commodore machines were powered by Motorolla CPUs. Today they are both powered by Intel, each shipping with their unique brand of OS. I struggle hard to see the difference. An “aftermarket box with stock hardware” is on the contrary a rather precise description of the current Macintosh machines. They are basically Windows capable machines (Intel processor, AMD graphics) in a different box running a Unix based OS. That being said; would I prefer one of Commodore’s new offerings compared to a Macbook Pro? Hardly. Give me an original C64 or A1200 any day =)
