Picture from CES 2010 highlights a “real” guitar

Video games played a big part this year at the Consumer Electronics Show. Space devoted to games doubled from last year, as Sony showed off some of its games in 3-D and Microsoft announced that its Project Natal motion controller would be released this coming holiday season, but that’s not all this year’s show had to offer, as virtual guitar players can soon get what many have been clamoring for.

While sales of music games were down in 2009, there are still tens of millions of Guitar Hero and Rock Band players out there. To feed their need for new gadgets, The You Rock Guitar game controller, will release next month for $180, and let you take your virtual jamming to the next level. Rather than buttons, the controller has color-coded frets that you tap or hold to play the game. You also strum any of its six strings instead of flipping the traditional strum bar. The guitar can be used on the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3, and you’ll need a $20 cartridge that plugs into the controller. It also works as a fully functioning guitar that you can connect to an amp, stereo or headphones.
