Picture from Driving record

The new Codemasters driving game FUEL is the world’s largest video game – and that’s official from the people at Guinness World Records. The soon to be released open world racing title contains 5,560 square miles of playable terrain making the title worthy of an official certificate from the record trackers. It is estimated that to drive from one side of the game to the other takes three hours. My advice, don’t take the kids in the back! Phil Wright, Producer at Codemasters admitted “we knew FUEL was going to be big but to have this confirmed officially by Guinness World Records justifies our faith in this ground-breaking title. No other game comes close to offering the variety of environments, the range of vehicles or the sheer size of FUEL. It’s one of the most innovative racers ever, and we’re thrilled it’s been recognized as the biggest console game of all time.”

The game will feature over 70 vehicles (on-road and off-road bikes, cars, quads, trucks, buggies and dragsters – though I couldn’t verify if these ran on environmentally friendly fuels or not). FUEL’s landscape is powered by cutting-edge technology and, utilizes satellite data. It also has a dramatic and dynamic weather system that includes tornados, sandstorms, blizzards, lightening and thunderstorms, so pack your umbrella. Players will also be able to go online to explore this massive world and compete in hundreds of multiplayer challenges. FUEL is coming in 2009 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows LIVE.
