Picture from EA looking to unseat Call of Duty

Electronic Arts is aiming to take on the Call of Duty franchise success this year, by pinning its hopes on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to strike the first blow. Jens Uwe Intat, the companies European boss, boasted that its developer DICE could “take on Modern Warfare. The shooter space is one we don’t want to give up. It’s an important genre and we were the number one. So we are certainly working on how we can get that crown back and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is an important product in that context.”

The games developer Dice also proposed that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was “reaching” the graphical quality set by last year’s stunning PS3-exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Notice, however, that they didn’t say they would surpass it! Indeed Dice producer Gordon Van Dyke said no game can claim to better the graphics seen in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2. “I wouldn’t make that kind of claim, Uncharted 2 is an amazing-looking game. But we’re reaching that level of quality. It’s going to be hard for any game to be able to make a claim that they look better. But we are getting to, I feel, that level, where it’s looking very impressive. When you see it – and I’ve heard other people say it as well, so it’s not just me – other people are saying it’s getting there.”

I also understand that they have made hitting targets a lot easier than it was in the original game – presumably in an attempt to tempt more CoD fans to change allegiances!
