Picture from Ensemble veteran forms Windstorm Studios

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, not once but three times, bits and pieces of the late Ensemble Studios have been reborn as Bonfire Studios, Robot Entertainment and now Windstorm Studios. Veteran developer Dusty Monk is heading up the latest incarnation. The newly formed upstart is working on an online game “unlike anything you’ve ever seen,” according to Windstorm’s website.

In a brief note on the site, Monk writes, “Are you tired of online games filled with depressing predictions of post apocalyptic destruction? Are you weary of walking through grey streets beneath grey skies and killing grey zombies? Have you had your fill of dank cellars and dark caves? Well, so have we! And we’re ready to build a brighter world! A better online game — a game with the promise of a hopeful future.”

Although no further details on the game are available, Windstorm has announced it’s seeking funding partners. Games to which Monk contributed include Hydro Thunder, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, the Age of Empire and Age of Mythology series, and Halo Wars. Microsoft closed Ensemble following the completion of Halo Wars earlier this year as part of an effort to achieve profitability.
