news-thompson Florida State Bar silences Thompson for good

Attorney Jack Thompson’s legal crusade against videogames is over, as is his career as a lawyer. The Florida State Bar this week permanently disbarred Thompson, citing his long history of public misconduct and recommendations from Judge Dava Tunis, the official who presided over Thompson’s 2007 ethics trial. (During his trial, Thompson handed copies of a 14-page objection to reporters and lawyers in the courtroom. When he got to the Bar prosecutor, he dropped the objection on his lap and walked away. A short while later, after telling the judge she wasn’t really a judge, he stormed out of the courtroom.) Thompson has until Oct. 25 to conclude his business with his clients and must pay nearly 44,000 dollars in restitution. (Read the official court order here.)

In response, Thompson filed a request with the U.S. District Court seeking an emergency stay of the Florida Supreme Court’s decision. He’s also published a press release claiming the court’s decision is in retaliation for his 2005 book, “Out of Harm’s Way,” which he says blew the whistle on the Florida Supreme Court’s efforts in the ’90s to “pathologize” his activism against the American entertainment industry. While some think we’ll still be hearing Thompson complain about videogames on CNN as one of their expert witnesses, it’s safe to say the shamed ex-attorney will no longer be given such a highly public platform for voicing his opinions.

Nice. But I am sure he will find some other way to terrorize gamers. I would not be surprised if some extremist group tries to sponsor him. Or maybe he can move to Australia.

We (Australia) don’t want him. Not even for a bet.

Send him somewhere nice, like Afganistan. I hear there, the games happen in your street, not on your PC.
