news-heavyrain If you die, its only the beginning

Name the last game that you died and then you continued the main story. Done? Can’t think of any, right? That’s because there aren’t any; they don’t exist. Well, until now, that is. From the developers that brought you the innovative Indigo Prophecy, Quantum Dream, comes a PS3 developed game called Heavy Rain. In Heavy Rain, if you die the story continues; the death of the main character won’t prevent you from completing the main story. By way of an explanation, David Cage of Quantum Dream said, “I can’t really tell you too much about what the story’s about or how it’s going to work with the characters. All I can tell you is that your character — the main character — can die and the story will continue. You can continue to play without this character.” Innovation. Imagine that!

Meh a lot of RPGs had important party members who could die and you can continue. Take Baldur’s Gate for example. Yoshimo in BG2 is an important character, who can die. Same with Imoen at one point.

Another game where death takes an interesting turn is Planescape Torment. There is a time where you HAVE to die if you want the story to continue.

Baroque (PS2)
You HAVE to die again and again to progress, and WILL die no matter how you try not to. Hehe.
