SEGA of America has revealed more details about Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, due out on the Wii and Nintendo DS this holiday season. Published by SEGA across Europe and North America, and published by Nintendo in Japan, Mario & Sonic is licensed through a worldwide partnership with the International Olympic Committee.

The Wii version includes 20 Olympic events. Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, players compete using one of 16 characters — eight from the world of Mario and eight from the world of Sonic. The Wii controls replicate the actions for each event, including fencing, archery, skeet shooting, high jump, pole vault, long jump, javelin throw, hammer throw, rowing, table tennis and more. The Wii controls include actions like swinging the Wii Remote to simulate the hammer throw, notching the Nunchuk to shoot arrows and replicating swimming strokes. Players can also discover the best way to win a game by experimenting with different movements to discover secret boosts.

Gamers will have four playing styles from which to choose, including all-around (Mario and Amy), technical (Peach and Tails), speed (Sonic and Yoshi) and power (Knuckles and Bowser). Players will be able to choose each event individually in Single Match mode or compete for the highest overall score in a series of events in Circuit mode. Additionally, gamers can learn about the history of the Olympic Games through trivia, quizzes and mini-games, and unlock facts and figures from past Olympic Games in the Gallery.
