Picture from Mass Effect gets Hollywood treatment

Undaunted by the suckage that seems to come hand-in-hand with game-to-movie adaptations, Electronic Arts has announced that developer BioWare’s hit outer space RPG Mass Effect is coming to a multiplex near you. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures (The Dark Knight, 300) will be the studio and producer, respectively, with BioWare head honchos Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk (as well as Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson) attached as executive producers. According to Newsarama, scriptwriting duties have been offered to Mark Protosevich, author of the recent I Am Legend remake and the upcoming comic-book adaptation Thor. No casting has been announced.

Honestly, why? Why bother? The game already tells a coherent story. It’s already cinematic. The big difference is that you the player are in control of what happens. What could possibly be gained by taking a cinematic game to the big screen?
