Nerd god Marcus Persson (aka “Notch”), creator of the indie gaming juggernaut Minecraft, is reaching for the stars (literally) with his new project, 0x10c. According to the game’s official site, it’s an adventure in a sci-fi setting, 281 trillion years in the future, when a software glitch traps a group of space travelers in hypersleep for millennia. The game is promised to include space battles, loot-filled ships to plunder, and duct tape (?). A multiplayer mode will be available, but it will likely carry a subscription fee. Development of the game has just started, so no release date was announced.

If Nodge succeeds in giving me a true spiritual successor of Elite I would be the happiest spacegamer on the planet.
I think one of the fascinating things that is different compared to other similar projects is that in all other games you as the player are your spaceship. Nodge wants the player to be able to walk around in his ship, exit his ship etc. That would be an incredible new revolutionary experience.
I only hope Nodge can live up to the expectations.
It’s the built-in 16-bit computer that’s the most fascinating idea. Forget mucking about with redstone, it’s time to program your own spaceship!
If all it was was just space minecraft, I’d be happy.
The programming will only be interesting for a limited audience, I think.
I, for one, am not interested at all in that part.
But perhaps it is made attractive enough to have a go at that too.
And god, I hope it is not minecraft in space. That would be awful.
I all for anything that harkens back to Elite. I just wish they would include a Novella and Star Chart like Elite did.
