It’s a date that’s going to be circled in bright pink on the calendars of many gamers if the reports are true. UK retailer GAME have released an official statement revealing November 8 as the date the newest addition to the Modern Warfare franchise will be released. The game will be £44.99 for PS3 and 360 owners, whilst PC owners get a bit of a break (£39.99). I’ve never been a fan of that £44.99 price point, which is just over $70. If it’s for a game with one of the most active online communities, then I’d say it’s definitely worth it. Fall 2011 could be another milestone in the exciting lifespan of the video-game industry.

Ok. I know this will come across as…baffling to many, but I have to ask:
what’s the appeal of the COD/MW franchise?
I mean, I played MW2. It was…ok. The single player was kind of stupid with a few cool set-piece battles (defending Burger King was fun). The challenges were mildly entertaining. Never really tried the MP, but given what I’d heard about it (hackfest, killstreaks ruining the game balance, no vehicles, etc.), it sounded fairly humdrum to me.
So…what’s the big deal? I’ve played COD2, COD3, MW2, and CODBLOPS, and all of them have been mildly entertaining cinematically-influenced SP with less interesting (to me, anyway) MP. Certainly the earlier games were boring for MP and struck me as having fairly poorly designed maps (IE: too easy to lock people into their spawnpoints). So why do people go gaga over this series? I mean, it’s entertaining, sure, but why is it such a megahit? I just don’t get it. Then again, I don’t understand the appeal and box office receipts of franchises like Bayformers.
hahah….Bayformers.
Bay makes nonsense rubbish….Modern of Warfare 2 is an ORIGINAL (mostly) game that’s made very well….but Halo is my cup of guiness.
this is something everyone has been waiting for for i dont know over a year! the new trailer video looks pretty good way better then the teaser. i read on http://www.blog4modernwarfare3.com/ about the kill streak rewards and what perks will and wont be in the game there is a rumor last stand or second chance will not make it into the new modern warfare 3 game along with one man army with out limits.
@Solo – I’m pretty sure the appeal isn’t a result of the game’s merits as much as it is a result of how the COD/MW multiplayer experience has increased the legitimacy of console gaming (at least in the minds of console gamers).
I can’t say this as fact, but it seems like PC gamers tend to think of Battlefield, Team Fortress and Counter Strike as their definitive FPS multiplayer games, whereas for a LONG time the most notable FPS multiplayer game on a console was Halo for Xbox. As COD/MW gained mainstream appeal for its multiplayer game, it seems like console gamers have started associating skill in the franchise’s MP mode with their worth as gamers.
It’s like the Xbox live gamerscore and achievements. Personally I could care less, but for some reason it still irks me that I consider myself a decent gamer yet my gamerscore sucks. There are A LOT of console gamers that buy into the marketing behind gamerscore as being something to prove you’re a better or more experienced gamer. I tend to think that the COD and MW franchises have had a similar affect on gamer’s sense of self.
I know COD and MW are available on PC, I just don’t know many PC gamers that really care about the franchises. Personally, if I was going to do multiplayer on a console I’d choose MW, but when I play a war-based FPS MP on a PC I prefer Bad Company 2.
