In the videos, the soldiers discuss their training, their weapons, the skills necessary to survive their missions, and the mindset required to get the job done.

Cold War shooter angers Germans

Picture from Cold War shooter angers GermansA student game developer in Germany just discovered that games set during the Cold War can still stir up emotions in his country.

Reuters reports that Jens Stober, a 23-year-old student at the University of Design, Media and Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany, claims that he created the game 1378 (km), to teach young Germans about their country’s past. The title asks players to assume the role of either an East German trying to escape the country by crossing the area known as the “death strip” or a guard tasked with gunning down all would-be escapees.

When Stober unveiled his project last week, as you might expect, it drew heavy criticism, particularly from the families of victims. 1378 (km) had been scheduled for release in conjunction with the celebration of German reunification, but due to the controversy will now be held off until December.

After budding world leaders select who they want to be, they are immediately confronted with significant and ever-changing world situations requiring immediate action, and must then quickly react to the resulting consequences of their actions.

Among many of today’s real-world challenges in Rulers of Nations are the U.S. deficit, the crises in Afghanistan and Iran, and the persistent problem of global warming. Other critical issues are creating energy sources from the sun to deep-sea oil drilling, managing refugees after a catastrophe, colonizing countries, and buying black market weapons. If you were the president, how would you manage the country – in the same style as President Obama, would you act more like President Bush, or would you fall somewhere in between?

Picture from EA ditches the Taliban

Medal of Honor Executive Producer, Greg Goodrich, issued a statement Friday on the game’s official site about the controversial Taliban element of its multiplayer. In it he cites all of the positive feedback the team has received on the game overall, but he also delves into some of the not so enthusiastic remarks they’ve received, and how it played into their final decision.

We have also received feedback from friends and families of fallen soldiers who have expressed concern over the inclusion of the Taliban in the multiplayer portion of our game. This is a very important voice to the Medal of Honor team. This is a voice that has earned the right to be listened to. It is a voice that we care deeply about. Because of this, and because the heartbeat of Medal of Honor has always resided in the reverence for American and Allied soldiers, we have decided to rename the opposing team in Medal of Honor multiplayer from Taliban to Opposing Force…To all who serve – we appreciate you, we thank you, and we do not take you for granted. And to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines currently serving overseas, stay safe and come home soon.”

Picture from DC Universe Online delayed

DC Universe Online is not only the first MMO set in the DC Universe, but the first MMO for the PlayStation 3, so Sony Entertainment Online finds themselves needing a bit more time to make it ready for the streets. As the game heads into external beta testing, this extra time will allow them to address community feedback, and get back to us with a doable release date.

The company has also revealed new details regarding the beta program. Players with VIP key cards and those already registered at the DCUO website will receive access on a priority basis starting as early as next week. As an added thank you, everyone that has already pre-ordered the game, and those who do so by November 15, 2010, are assured access to the beta by November 30 in North America.

Anyone pre-ordering the game after November 15 will gain beta access one week prior to the launch date and will be able to participate in a special beta ending event. Those wishing to register for the beta without pre-ordering have until 11:59pm PST tonight.
