Enclave: Shadows of Twilight prepares for launch

Picture from Enclave: Shadows of Twilight prepares for launch

TopWare Interactive has launched the teaser site for their upcoming Wii title Enclave: Shadows of Twilight. Scheduled for release in the middle of June, the RPG classic has been overhauled for the Nintendo console version. These enhancements include improved AI, renovated game systems, and Wii Remote motion support.

The end seemed inescapable as Vatar, the Prince of Darkness, had won. But a lonely mage stands high up on a mountain ridge, defying the Demon. He lifts his staff high in the air then thumps it down on the earth, and unimaginably powerful spells are created, harnessing the infernal powers of nature. The rift caused by the mage’s powerful spell continues to expand, sucking everything into a seemingly endless abyss. On the one side an Enclave of Light was created, which they called Celenheim. On the other side of the gigantic ravine, dark and evil life forms were fighting to survive in the Outlands. However, the centuries passed and now the ravine has become narrower. Attacks from the shadow world have grown in number and intensity. In these difficult times, vital decisions must be made, and it’s all up to the player!

Execs gather to discuss 3D gaming

Picture from Execs gather to discuss 3D gaming

After lying dormant for decades like a sneaky disease, 3D movies have made a big resurgence in the past few years, led by James Cameron’s monster hit “Avatar” (does that make him King of the Universe now? Just wonderin’). So its only logical to assume that 3D gaming won’t be too far behind. With this in mind, gaming-company executives and representatives of other related industries have gathered in Universal City, Ca., for the first-ever 3D Gaming Summit.

Jon Landau, producer of both the “Avatar” film and the multiplatform video games, says that its only a matter of time before we’re all sitting in our living rooms with controllers in our hands and silly plastic glasses on our heads. “People are going to want 3D in their homes. I think 3D is going to become ubiquitous in everything we do.” And the console makers aren’t wasting time. Sony has begun making changes in PS3 system updates to allow for future 3D gaming, while Nintendo has already announced the upcoming release of the 3DS, which runs 3D games that you don’t have to wear glasses to play.

Deep Silver has announced that they will publish nail’d, a new arcade-style off-road racer for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

nail’d eschews boring realism for over the top arcade fun. It’s a racer that challenges everything from player reflexes to the rules of physics. Riding on ATVs and motocross bikes with powerful boost controls, players will race down near-vertical courses of jumps, stunts and obstacles. The title also challenges convention when it comes to track design by emphasizing verticality and drops instead of simply adding in a few jumps on mainly horizontal paths.

nail’d, developed by Techland, is scheduled for a worldwide launch this fall.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been chosen by fans to be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 11, which is set to hit retail shelves on August 10. The selection is the result of a first-ever online consumer vote, powered by the Doritos “Change the Game” program, which empowered fans to select the cover athlete.

Drew was named Super Bowl XLIV MVP after leading the New Orleans Saints to their first ever Super Bowl title. Following a career threatening injury during his last season with the San Diego Chargers, Brees joined the New Orleans Saints in 2005, less than a year after Hurricane Katrina. Since then, Brees has helped rebuild the city and the football team, through his successes on the field and contributions to the community off the field.

Madden NFL 11 will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PSP. It will also be available for download globally on mobile platforms including the iPod touch and iPhone.

Blizzard does not mess around when it swings the banhammer, and booted 320,000 online accounts from some of its most popular games.

We’ve recently banned over 320,000 Warcraft III and Diablo II accounts that were found to be violating the Battle.net Terms of Use,” a statement on the company’s forums reads. “If this is a first offense, the CD key associated with the banned account will be suspended for 30 days, while repeat offenders will see their keys banned permanently. All account ban decisions are final.”

Things that got users banned ranged from “abuse of unintended mechanics” to “use of third party programs.”

Final Fight: Double Impact requires PSN connection

Picture from Final Fight: Double Impact requires PSN connection

Final Fight: Double Impact may be a collection of retro games, but some owners of the PS3 version discovered that it is, at heart, a little too modern. The game will not run unless the user is signed into an online PSN account. If you try to load it up while not signed in, you’ll just get a curt “Sign into PlayStation Network. (80029516)” message on the screen. (The Xbox 360 version launches without issue, even when not signed into Xbox Live.)

Picture from Trine gets free DLC with Steam patch

Last weekend, while you were working on the wizard outfit that will finally complete your cosplay group’s Trine collective, Steam was busy updating the PC version of the game with free content. The game received a free DLC level named “Path to New Dawn” as a post-completion bonus, and a handful of minor updates were made to the game itself, ranging from new information on “experience and secrets in the inventory menu” to fixing a “respawn bug in [the] Iron Forge level (in co-op) near the first gate.”

Unfortunately, it appears that the release of this new content for the PS3 version isn’t a sure thing. “At the moment we’re not sure if the free DLC is going to get released on PSN,” developer Frozenbyte told Joystiq. “It’s not in our direct control but we’d love to get it released and are trying to make that happen — but at this point it’s hard to say how it will play out. Same goes for the price as well.”

Previously exclusive to select community members and available via giveaways on various websites, the Lost Planet 2 multiplayer demo is now available for download via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Featuring the Turbulent Jungle Map, one of the ten maps available on the retail disk, the demo previews the mayhem that consumers can expect when the game arrives in stores on May 11.

Downloading the Lost Planet 2 demo also benefits the world with Capcom’s “Kill Big for Charity” program. Capcom is partnering with Music for Relief, a non-profit organization dedicated to disaster relief and disaster risk mitigation, to contribute $20,000 to charity if one million demos are downloaded across both XBL and PSN before May 5. An additional $5,000 will be added to the pot if an extra 500,000 demos can be achieved. The specific cause to receive the donation will be determined by a celebrity tournament on May 6 in Los Angeles. The winning team of that tournament will choose which Music for Relief program will receive the funds.

Yeehaw! Pull up your boots, spin your spurs and stake claim to a piece of the new frontier in Ranch Town, the latest social entertainment title from Meteor Games, the independent online games studio founded by the creators of Neopets. Ranch Town is a free-to-play social game that Facebook users can hang their ten-gallon hat on, and aims to provide a fresh take on the popular farming game model as it brings the first Wild West-themed experience to the world’s largest social networking site.

Ranch Town gives Facebook desperadoes a chance to live and play during the iconic Gold Rush era of American history. Starting with their very own plot of land, a lonely cow and a handful of mining nodes, players can stake a claim and mine for more gold than those 49ers of years ago ever dreamed of. When supplies are low, players can head to the general store for a variety of provisions to get back into the saddle. As they progress, the pan handlers will unlock new machinery, build up their resources and strike it rich – becoming the envy of every dude and gal in Ranch Town.
