The new Iowa Mission Pack for Battlestations: Midway on the PC is now available for free download. The expansion includes two new historical battle maps and brand new vehicles. The new maps offer two battles from the Pacific Theater of World War II: the Battle of Sibuyan Sea and the Raid on Truk.
Based on one of the major battles of the Leyte Gulf Campaign, the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea provides a new multiplayer experience as one of the greatest naval warfare battles in all time history – one which saw the Japanese armada destroyed in October of 1944. The Battle of the Sibuyan Sea allows you to command the U.S. Fleet featuring the USS Iowa and USS Enterprise, or Japan’s Kurita navy, featuring the Yamato and the ill-fated Musashi battleships.
The single player battle, the Raid on Truk, is based on Operation Hailstone, a naval air and surface attack launched by the United States Navy against the Japanese naval and air base at Truk in February 1944. You command the U.S. Fleet in a four phase battle starting with a P-38 air strike and leading to the command of the USS Enterprise and her armada.
The new battles feature a new set of air, sea and underwater vehicles, including the P-38 Lightning, Nakijima J1N1 Gekko, USS Iowa, IJN Shimakaza and Type A mini-sub.
The new maps are now available to download here.
