In the wake of today’s news, the former Conn. Attorney General has written a letter to Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton demanding the Playstation maker do more for its customers.

Bad news for PSN users

Picture from Bad news for PSN users

This afternoon, PlayStation sent out a letter to all of their PSN and Qriocity customers detailing last week’s events and the steps they’ve taken since.

Between April 17 and April 19, some PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal intrusion into their network. They then took it upon themselves to temporarily turn off these services, and engaged an outside security firm to conduct an investigation. Now they are taking steps to enhance security and strengthen their network infrastructure through re-building.

They believe that the hacker(s) obtained the name, address, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID for some users. It is also possible that some profile data, including purchase history and billing address, and PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. There is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, but they cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution they are advising you that your credit card number and expiration date may have been obtained.

We’ll continue to keep you posted as the situation evolves.

Picture from Skydive: Proximity Flight announcedGaijin Entertainment has announced that they have Skydive: Proximity Flight in development. Inspired by the extreme sport of base-jumping and the idea of human flight, the title will put players inside a wingsuit and use motion-detection technology to simulate unrestricted flight.

Using motion controllers, Skydive players will be able to fly through the air by simply waving their arms and maneuvering their bodies. Remember Hydrophobia? Perhaps you recall all the fuss generated by the developer in response to some of the not so glowing reviews of its original water-based title. Now they have a new version, Hydrophobia Prophecy, making the leap from 360 exclusive to both PC and PSN.

The developers have stated that, “it includes upgraded graphics, brand new game-play mechanics, exclusive new levels, a reworked back story, a dramatic new ending, recast voice acting and much, much more.” The long list of new features and enhancements is also augmented by changes Dark Energy has made in response to data gathered from the Hydrophobia Listening Post where players voted and commented on the features of Hydrophobia Pure.

So, despite their robust defense against the criticisms raised by players to the first game, it seems Dark Energy has relented and included them in this new upgraded version. It’s expected to be released via Steam May 9.

Picture from PSN update

In this case, no news is still bad news. We reported yesterday that the PlayStation Network was down, and it appears that not much has changed. Patrick Seybold, PlayStation Sr. Director of Corporate Communications, has released the following statement, but if you were looking for answers, you’ll be disappointed.

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time. As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.”

Sega goes green

Picture from Sega goes greenSega has released the first screenshots for Phantasy Star Online 2, which will be a monthly fee based, online affair for the PC. The original was a big hit with the console crowd, so it was a little surprising to learn that it will be PC only this time around. Forests featured massively in the first game so it’s a given that these screens contain a lot of foliage. In my opinion the graphics look a bit dated, but it’s still very early in the development process.
