Full version of Minecraft to release in November |

Markus Persson, developer of the popular indie title Minecraft, has revealed that the full version of the game is scheduled to release in November.
According to Persson’s blog, “It’s a bit tricky to really do a release for Minecraft as we keep updating it all the time. For one, the version we deem as the full version won’t be very different at all from what the game was like a week ago, and we’ll keep adding features after the release as well, so it’s really more of a milestone when we finally get rid of the Beta label, and some kind of goal for us to work towards. And if you were wondering if they picked the date by mistake given that Veterans’ Day is shaping up to be a big gaming day this year, he had this to say: “It’s the same date as a few other games and movies, and the one I’m the most excited about is Skyrim, so that will be a nice reward for me if we actually manage to hit that date!“

Sony exec has harsh words for Nintendo |

For a man whose major products are mired at the bottom of the sales heap, Sony CEO Jack Tretton has lots of nasty things to say about the competition. In an interview with Fortune, Tretton points to the Nintendo Wii’s lack of storage and its method of motion control as reasons for the console’s perceived declining relevancy. ”Why would I buy a gaming system without a hard drive in it? How does this thing scale? Motion gaming is cute, but if I can only wave my arms six inches, how does this really feel like I’m doing true accurate motion gaming?” And despite the fact that there’s more than two Nintendo DS units for every one PSP in gamers’ hands, Tretton characterizes the Nintendo handheld as ”a great babysitting tool…no self-respecting twenty-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those.” Bobby Kotick would be proud.

The PS3 hacker story has gone off on yet another tangent. A group of hackers known as Anonymous is not pleased with the way Sony has been treating George Hotz, the 21-year-old New Jersey hacking legend who developed tools that could be used to gain total control of a PS3. Anonymous has been organizing denial-of-service attacks against Sony websites for the past week. But according to Ars Technica, a source inside the situation at Sony has described the attacks as merely ”medium strength,” only strong enough to annoy their network engineers. It was also reported that Internet security firm Prolexic has been called in to deal with Anonymous’s continued attacks, which apparently has the hackers scrambling for alternatives. Meanwhile, Hotz remains in South America, where he’s been for the last few weeks. Sony says he skipped town to avoid trial. Hotz says he’s on vacation.

PSX4Droid, the PSOne emulator for Android that was recently pulled by Google, has gone free and open source. Joystiq reports that the latest version of the software puts both the app and the source code online for anyone to download and check out.
Developer ZodTTD claims that the original Sony complaint only had to do with a trademarked logo in the app’s icon, but Google has closed both his Android Market and CheckOut accounts, leaving him unable to publish any apps. As a result, he’s self-publishing PSX4Droid, and will be exploring other third-party markets to sell the app in.
