In a recent interview with Destructoid, David Hoffman, Executive Producer of Supreme Commander 2, mentioned that one of the reasons Square Enix decided to publish the game is that they saw the possibility to move into new genres.
“I felt that RTS is something that really stands on its own two feet and can evolve itself into other genres. I’m referring to what Blizzard did with Warcraft. I think Square Enix has a long term vision for any franchise that it develops. If [Supreme Commander] is a successful hit we would like to see it evolve. Into what is still being talked about. We want to take it one step at a time.”

Microsoft’s virtual currency is the subject of a new lawsuit. The class action suit alleges that Microsoft cheated people when they charged them real money for the digital cash, and that some were charged for purchases they did not complete due to faulty downloads.
The filing attorney believes that Microsoft “engaged in a scheme to unjustly enrich itself through their fraudulent handling” of his Xbox Live account. He also claims that he is but one of “hundreds” of customers to be stung by Microsoft’s willingness to charge for services not rendered.

Adidas has a new marketing gimmick targeting gamers, as they’ve decided to add a bit of augmented reality to their new line of shoes. The AR Game Pack is a set of five shoes that have an AR code printed on the tongue of the shoe. When you remove your shoe and hold the tongue up to a web camera it grants access to a “virtual version of the Adidas Originals Neighborhood.” The shoe will also act as a game controller of sorts. The shoes go on sale February 15, and each month between February and April will see the launch of a new interactive game in the neighborhood.
