Madden is turning 20, and to celebrate, EA is releasing a special edition of the game for 89.99 USD. The special edition includes Madden 09, NFL Head Coach 09 and a plethora of bonus video content. The special anniversary edition will be available for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. The regular version of Madden 09 will be available for the 360, PS3, PS2, PSP and DS. That’s right; Madden’s having a party, and everyone is invited — except PC gamers.
When explaining the lack of PC love this time around, EA’s Peter Moore said, “The PC presents some very serious business challenges to us in the sports category, particularly because so many of you all are playing your favorite sports games on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. We are committed to shipping a limited number of our games on the PC this year, but we’ve also had to cut a few of our games from the platform. We do have ideas for how to revitalize the PC for sports games and the types of games that are best suited to the platform, and we’ll continue to explore those.”
This news comes as a shock to some PC… Wait a minute… What the hell is NFL Head Coach? Is there seriously an NFL coaching sim out there? Are there enough buttons on a controller to do all the things a coach does? Things like yelling, swearing, dropping to their knees, wearing stupid half-sleeve sweatshirts, continually playing your starting QB even though he sucks and everyone hates him (thank you very much, Lovie Smith)? If your team wins, is there a bonus level where you dodge Gatorade being poured on you? If you lose, is there a Mass Effect-like conversation ring to get you through your press conferences?

What a joke! I always look forward to buying my copy of Madden and playing it during the NFL season. Now I can’t do that and I am really ticked about it. Hopefully there will be enough of an outcry that EA will be forced to change its decision.
EA isn’t going to be “forced” into anything by PC gamers, they make huge amounts of money off Xbox and Playstation, those of us who only use our PC’s for gaming don’t have a voice at EA anymore, it’s all about the $$$ for them.
I’m surprised at the outcry personally. I LAN once every few months, and not a single person I meet at them, nor any of my friends that go there, play a sports game with a ball and field or court on their PC. The only “sports” we play are Nascar, TOCA, and other racing games.
Really, this is good news to me — not like Madden has been innovative. Just play your old one, and mash your rosters around. Same difference…EA should have just been releasing roster updates every year for 5 years and then release a new engine.
I already planned my boycott Madden this year simply because the improvements from year to year are becoming less noticeable. Also the fact that the much more powerful PCs version looks like crap compared to the PS3 and 360 adds to me boycotting the SOBS not to mention that they extended their contract to be the only NFL licensed game. And now this. I will not be buying any version this season.
