Picture from Play CSI and enter to win a trip to Vegas

Ubisoft has launched the CSI: Deadly Intent Instant Win Investigation and Solve the Case Sweepstakes, a two-part online promotion that gives both casual and dedicated fans of the television series a chance to experience what it is like to be a true CSI. To participate in the promotion, players can investigate a different crime scene daily in the Instant Win Investigation for a chance to instantly win CSI gear prizes. True CSI fans who want a more challenging experience can continue their investigation and try to identify the guilty suspect in each case. Each day they arrest the guilty suspect, players earn an additional entry into the Solve the Case Sweepstakes for an all inclusive trip for two to Las Vegas and a VIP Tour of CSI: The Experience at the MGM Grand Hotel, guided by a writer from the television series. The promotion is now live, and will end on January 18, 2010.

Who is Julia Steele, and why do we want to know?

Okay confused (I must be really dense) – all I can find out is that it’s a shot from a screen from episode 3 of season 5 where they were hunting for Pedos.

An IP address currently follows the following form XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX. While there are talks about creating more addresses by increasing the number of digits, there is no way that on 10/07/2004 some person had an IP address of XXXXX.XXXX.XXXX.XXXXX. You know how whenever they show programs or OSs in movies they make them look pretty but completely ridiculous and unrealistic to the nth degree? Well, CSI is just like that. Hence they fail.

Gotcha – thought you were leading me on a trail for clues. ;) You’d think that the set designers (particularly on such high tech shows) would know better, but they don’t. Those inserts get added in post, and the notes from either the writer or director usually read something like “make a cool screen to show this person’s account” or even less detailed “insert screen for Julia Steele”. Turnaround is 8 days, so yeah, accurate often gets left off the menu. :(
