Picture from ROTT construction video released

PC gamers with a sense of history will fondly recall the 1995 Apogee classic Rise of the Triad. After almost two decades, Apogee and developer Interceptor Entertainment are giving the game the Unreal Engine 3 upgrade it has long deserved. The video on the left shows Interceptor CEO Frederik Schreiber building a section of a level of the game, starting virtually from scratch. It’s seven minutes of fascinating time-lapse photography that anyone with an interest in game design should enjoy. ROTT is scheduled for release by the end of 2012.

I can’t tell you how excited I am for this. ROTT was one of my favorite games growing up. It was also the first game I ever modded, the level editor was surprisingly easy to use.
