Develop Online reports that Mike Kulas, co-founder and president of THQ studio Volition, has announced his retirement from the group. Kulas, 49, said his decision to leave was not triggered by any changes at the studio or THQ, and that he has been considering retirement since 2010. He intends to stay in the Illinois area, where Volition is based, and wants to clear his mind before deciding his next play.
Volition’s longstanding vice president, Dan Cermak, will replace Kulas. Kulas co-founded Parallax Software in 1993, before splitting the firm into Volition. In 2000 the studio was acquired by THQ.
At the end of March THQ laid off 16 Volition employees.
