Develop Online reports that Nintendo’s next generation console won’t come with playback capabilities for DVD or Blu-ray. The company stands by its aim to build devices specifically for playing games. Adding in the cost of a DVD or Blu-ray player would be redundant.

“We feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray,” said Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, last week at a Q&A session.
