It’s those sales figures again but surprisingly, there is no familiar face at the top. Yep, the Wii has been dethroned by Microsoft’s machine. For the first time in three years, the Xbox 360 topped the monthly sales charts. According to NPD, Xbox sold 443,500 units in the month of July, while Wii sold 253,900 and the PS3 notched up 214,500. Xbox’s success, according to NPD, has been due to the release of their new Slim format. I, however, would like to think that people are finally seeing why Microsoft has the best all-round machine.

Nice neutral standpoint there at the end.
“…Microsoft has the best all-round machine.” Are you kidding? Netflix instant streaming on the PS3 does not require gold membership. PS3 plays blu ray. No proprietary hard drive upgrades (I bought a 640GB 2.5″ HD for $60 and popped it right in the PS3 slim). I think “all-round” must consider usage _other_ than games and in this respect, I can’t see how the XBOX 360 can beat the PS3 in this respect.
Note that future firmware updates against the PS3 will allow 3D blu ray playback as well as a revision to Netflix that will no longer require the disc. What is the 360 bringing to the table other than gaming _without_ paying for additional (network) services?
BTW I think Playstation Plus is a joke…
It is the software that makes it a good system to have because frankly the hardware leaves a lot to be desired. For me, personally, I will never buy another MS hardware device because of all the issues with the 360 and my dealings with MS customer service.
Guys, the PS3 may have the more powerful hardrive, better graphics and blu-ray but I feel the 360 has a lot more as a whole. Think about it…
Their variety of games of every genre, the amazing Live service which trumps PS3 and Wii’s online services and they still have the best exclusive: Halo, Mass Effect are two BIG-TIME games both critically and financially. So yes, it really is the best all-round machine and one that I would recommend to someone who wants to game, rather than watch Blu-ray or have some fun swinging a remote around
Mine is a love hate relationship – I love the games available, I love the software behind it, and I hate the hardware as well. For the money I’ve spent on 360s I could’ve had a PS3, but would I be completely happy with it? I won’t know until the next time I have to replace.
I am disappointed by the “…Microsoft has the best all-round machine.” comment; what ever happened to neutrality?
I’ve had tons of hardware trouble on the 360 side of things; I purchased a slim simply because my console finally bit the dust completely and I have a small backlog of 360 games (I’ve been busy :S).
At the end of the day, it’s a game system with pro’s and con’s like any other IMO.
Ha! What fun would the world be if we were all neutral?
True though, I must admit that the 360 does have its cons. DAMN YOU, RED RING OF DAAAANGER!!!
