Picture from Zelda gets motioned along

Shigeru Miyamoto, a company executive from Nintendo, has announced that the next Wii entry into the Legend of Zelda series will use the Wii MotionPlus peripheral.

About MotionPlus, we’re implementing it so that players can feel like they themselves are holding the sword. In the previous Zelda the targeting was based on the IR pointer. This time, however, we’ll be using MotionPlus for a variety of more convenient targeting systems that will allow for more pleasant gameplay.”

This probably translates into lots of swordplay. It has not yet been confirmed if the development in MotionPlus will be an integral part of gameplay or an option. The new title in the series is expected to be released sometime in 2010. Could frenetic sword play be enough to ssshake Wii sales up?
