I have a pretty nice Athlon PC I just built with an 8800 GT Max Overclock edition and a XP 5200 overclocked to 3.1ghz from the original 2.6ghz. I get a steady 60 fps with the occasional dip to 40ish during intense moments using DX9 in Windows XP. I have Vista installed also and I tried Hellgate using Vista but IMO the framerate drop was just too much for the ‘enhanced’ visuals. I’d agree it looked better, but only in some areas. I didn’t really like the blur effect that it adds when you look at things in the distance. Although some of the effects, especially the weather, I really liked. However, I’m probably going to stick with DX9. I can max out everything except Anti Aliasing and get 60fps which is my max rate due to V-Sync and my 22 inch LCD Widescreen monitor. If I had a more powerful PC and I could play DX10 with similar framerates I probably would. If you can only play DX9 though because you don’t have Vista or your comp is too slow don’t let that keep you from buying this game. I have played WoW for two years str8 and I’m leaving it, possibly forever, to play this game. I really love it and if you were a fan of Diablo I’m SURE that you will to! If your hesitant at the VERY least download the demo and play for an hour or so and then see how you feel! You’ll probably wish you started playing sooner!

I was initially against Vista but an unavoidable malfunction with my old PC forced my hand and I got the new OS with my replacement. I haven’t been disappointed necessarily, yet I wouldn’t mind the comfortable chair that was XP to sit on once in awhile. HG:L was a prime example of a “noticeable difference”… and where with my old PC I was almost disgusted with the visuals, Vista offered enough change to keep me interested.

it seems to be the first game I heard of where dx10 makes a difference. In Crysis it just does not matter, for example. nevertheless it’s not worth getting vista, IMHO.
