it should be noted that this game is not "Free-To-Play" its only FTP until u get so far. after the area somewhere in the level 30s you MUST buy either quest packs or a subscription in order to continue. so no it is not free to play

I made a Minstrel and leveled it to 65. I raided a little. On the way, I bought a few Turbine Points. The first I spent on a Quest Pack for Lone Lands which Turbine decided to make free a week later. I ran into this problem several other times while leveling as they were ironing their Free to a Point system out.

This game disregards its own mythos.

I came expecting a Tolkienesque atmosphere that perhaps borrowed some imagery from Peter Jackson's excellent renditions of the setting. I was to be disappointed. The game is related to Lord of the Rings in name only - classes are loosely based on the setting or completely made up. Locations are pulled from a hat. There are Orcs in Lothlorien. Maybe I could expect something from the gameplay.

The gameplay is generic WoW.

The few mechanics that separate LoTRO from WoW make LoTRO inferior in every case. Mostly, the game's flat-out copied. Expect bland terrain with mobs sprinkled out at almost precise intervals for no rhyme or reason, grinding to get to level cap whereupon you'll be expected to know all of the abilities you never used leveling, etc.

LoTRO is a MSORPG.

People don't talk in this game. I couldn't believe it - isn't the whole point of playing an online game like this instead of one with superior settings, gameplay, and graphics to socialize with other misfits / the unbathed? This game has only two (TWO) chat areas of any significance whatsoever - Bree, and a global channel called glff - and both are the tail end of the worst, rudest, blandest, dumbest chat ever to disgrace WoW.

If you want manners, play FFXI. If you want exciting gameplay, play a shooter. If you want ingenuity, delight, excitement, or outright fun on a pretty consistent basis then I don't know where to go, but don't go here. This game is dogmeat full of the bottom end of the barrel, and endgame full of casual gaming elitists (I KNOW that doesn't make any sense!). Turbine was a disgraceful failure at meeting even low or limited expectations.

Try another game.

I've now got a 53 Man Warden & a 51 Man Hunter both of whom are in Moria, i bought the Moria expansion and was lucky enough to catch the Mirkwood expansion on special offer... It takes time but there are ways to 'grind' TP -- I now have unlimited gold cap unlocked, quest packs unlocked ALL expansions plus things like inventory bags, I effectively have a VIP account minus things like swift travel -- f2p LOTRO is a brilliant idea, play it NOW :)

Congrats, Ben! I wish I was so lucky. My Level 12 Human Champion is gone with the wind; I lost him when the beta server was taken down. But that's OK; now that I know how to make the grind go faster, I'll be back where I left off in no time.

it should also be mentioned if your a former subscriber that has previously purchased the expansions Turbine lets you keep the content you earned before. i am now a free player with a lvl 43 burgler and all expansions, essentially i'm playing the VIP versioni for free. With very few things still restricted.
