Graphics: Graphics in Rebel Assault 2 are in SVGA and look very good. The game moves very quickly and uses premade cutaway scenes so obviously you won’t find any pixelation. The movie sequences look great also, there is some color distortion that you can expect from DOS movies, but overall there were no pops, stutters, or jumps. The gameplay scenes are also in SVGA and use the same movie technology, albeit in a different fashion.
Interface/Gameplay: Rebel Assault 2 doesn’t have much of an interface to worry about. Combat scenes can be played with the mouse or joystick and are rather basic. You use one button to fire your blaster and the other to duck in and out of cover. Flight based scenarios are a bit more difficult however because you have to combine precision-style shooting while not crashing into things like cavern walls. The rest of the game plays itself through the movie sequences.
Sound FX:
Sound FX in Rebel Assault 2 was _exactly_ like in the movies. Everything from blaster fire to Storm Troopers speaking, to the roar of the Millenium Falcon’s engines was perfect and sounded great. You will in fact hear just about everything you can imagine in this game.
Musical Score: The musical score of Rebel Assault was also taken directly from the movies and is presented in 10-channel digital sound. The music, of course, sounds fantastic but the game loses points because it also sounds very muffled.
Difficulty: Rebel Assault 2 has many various levels of difficulty but the game itself just isn’t very challenging. The most challenging part is navigator throughout the many tunnel systems in the Falcon, which will take you many tries to do. Besides that, this game has got nothing to offer.
Overall: Rebel Assault scores very highly but remember that difficulty isn’t tallied in. The game itself is both visually and auditorally stunning but otherwise quite boring and mundane to play. Like I said above, I finished the game in just about 3 hours time. I would suggest passing on this one unless you’re buying it for young children.
