Review by: Brian Clair

Space Dude places you as the galaxy’s only hope against the Dorfs, an evil, warlike race that travels throughout the galaxy looking for worlds to conquor. Now the Dorfs have invaded your world, and your mission is to protect the Golden City and to destroy the Dorf Command Ship. You’d better move quickly though, Dorf Hopper tanks are moving in on your position! Thanks to the cool people at Formgen, we were provided with a full game for review.

Space Dude has several options for attack and defense. He can build a defensive position armed with a ray-gun to block the advance of the Hopper Tanks; repair damaged defensive posts; attack incoming Hopper tanks; attempt to capture an incoming Hopper; or try to fight his way through the Command Ship to King Dorf.

You maneuver and decide which missions to take by moving your pointer over the strategy map which shows you the Golden City, the surrounding area (with mountains, craters, etc), any incoming Hoppers (not covered by weather), atmospheric effects, your defensive positions, and the Dorf Command Ship. Once you decide to attack, your objectives are fairly simple. First, get there in one piece (you’ll always have to fly through some kind of obstacle, enemy or otherwise) and once there, blow up the enemy before they blow up you. In defensive missions, this is very straightforward as the counter on the screen will show you how many hits it will take to destroy the enemy Hopper and your gun turrent will suffer visible damage. You win the game if you can defeat King Dorf and lose if the Hoppers reach the Golden City and destroy it.
