Konquest mode is a full, single-player adventure game with an in-depth story, evolving powers and a unique Kombat system that takes you through various realms of the Mortal Kombat Universe. You move along a predefined, linear path dotted with arena battles and traps. This mode gives you the chance to unlock characters, and offers large battles against multiple enemies.
Motor Kombat is a Kart racing game complete with super moves and death traps. You can play alone or with up to three other combatants. A simplified version of Mario Kart 64 with a small selection of tracks and the usual set of power-ups, Motor Kombat has one big problem: with each character, you have just one special move, so the game is more about knowing the racers than the tracks. It’s easy to learn characters like Raiden; his lightning shield is essentially useless when racing. The obvious choice would be someone with a missile attack. Still, Motor Kombat is fun for quick multiplayer excitement.
The moves with the Wii remote involve the basic side to side, up and down, and a half circle. One thing you have to remember to do is hold your B button until the end of the motion. This takes practice, but once you’ve done it a couple of times, you’re ready to jump into the game. From there, it’s business as usual for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. As expected, you’ll beat other fighters with your choice of more than 60 characters, including a couple of hidden ones you can unlock by going through Konquest mode.
In all, if you’re a fan of MK, you’re going to get a kick out of all of the gore and over-the-top fatalities in Armageddon. How does everything else hold up? Let’s find out.
